This annual one day event gives older people a fantastic opportunity to discuss the issues affecting them throughout Scotland. Now in its third year, SOPA’s topics up for discussion include active ageing, personal finance and care and support.
The programme is packed full to the gunnels, including presentations from Highland Senior Citizens’ Network, Dumfries & Galloway Seniors Forum, The Scottish Youth Parliament and older people from Edinburgh’s A City for All Ages group.
There will be a keynote presentation from Nicola Sturgeon MSP, Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Health, Wellbeing and Cities Strategy.
SOPA will also be using a live video link to beam Steve Webb MP, Minister of State for Pensions, from Westminster.
These two high profile politicians will be on hand to answer questions about the issues that matter to older people.
There will also be lots of exhibitors and stall-holders that will be chatting away and providing useful information, including Alzheimer’s Scotland, Care and Repair Scotland, and our very own Age Scotland staff.
Age Scotland has been involved with SOPA since its inception, and we have seen the event go from strength to strength in the three years it has been running. This year is set to be the best yet.
We wanted to highlight SOPA a little in advance of the day because you’re invited and a little notice is always helpful! Older people’s groups and organisations, as well as individuals are all invited to attend the conference. This is a brilliant opportunity to grill the UK’s politicians on important issues, meet and network with older people from all over Scotland, and debate the topics that matter to you.
You can get lots of information about the event on SOPA’s information site. If you’d like to get involved please contact Anne Elliott on 0131 469 3764 or drop her an email – firstname.lastname@example.org. For social media lovers, SOPA are on Twitter.
Set the date in your diary and we’ll see you there!
