Age Scotland is celebrating Volunteers Week, and first and foremost, we have to say an enormous thank you to our volunteers who donate their time to the older people of Scotland and to the charity. Their hard work and dedication should be nothing but applauded!
Are you interested in joining them? If you want to learn or develop new skills, boost career options, explore new interests, build friendships or just want a sense of motivation and achievement in your spare time, then volunteering is definitely for you. And of course, it’s a lot of fun.
Age Scotland has a range of volunteering opportunities available, and we would love to hear from you if you are interested in getting involved.
The Age Scotland Helpline
The Age Scotland Helpline offers an independent, confidential telephone based information service to people aged 50 and over living in Scotland, and to those associated with them such as their carers and families.
If you want to empower older people, their friends, families and carers with information that will enable them to get the most out of later life then you might be interested in volunteering with the Helpline.
Age Scotland charity shops
There are 14 Age Scotland charity shops across Scotland that offer a wide and ever-changing range of goods at very reasonable prices. The shops provide a gateway to the whole charity and are recycling centres too.
“I would recommend volunteering here to anyone, as it’s really enjoyable and you meet so many nice people.”
Mark Raeburn, volunteer, Age Scotland Bathgate shop
If you think variety is the spice of life, love meeting new people and are looking for a flexible volunteering opportunity, then donating time to one of our shops could be what you’re looking for.
Age Scotland campaigns, media and policy volunteering
We work hard to influence politicians and decision makers on the issues that affect older people. Whether this is through research projects, campaigning on specific issues or using communications to spread the word, campaigning, policy and media are important elements of Age Scotland.
If you are interested in policy, older people’s issues and enjoy writing for magazines and blogs, then get in touch. We’d love to hear from you.
