Ashley Simpson tells us about why she enjoys volunteering with Age Scotland as Information Reader volunteer.
I am currently a junior doctor practicing within the South East of Scotland. Passionate about the health and well-being of older people, my career ambition is to specialise in Medicine for older people. When I read the volunteering opportunities with Age Scotland, I decided to apply for a position as an Information Reader.
The role of Information Reader involves reading through the fact-sheets and information leaflets published by Age Scotland, and assessing them under a variety of domains, including readability, ease of understanding, breadth and depth of information. This role ensures that the fact-sheets and information leaflets are up-to-date and appropriate for the target audience.
This position didn’t require any specific skills or qualifications, and getting started was simple; it is very flexible, and I am able to fit it in around my work and other commitments. Not only have I gained a great amount of knowledge from this volunteer role, I have also gained a real sense of fulfillment and satisfaction from this opportunity.
